The Maples Park
The City of Crestwood has endured intense growth over the last 30 years. Realizing the need for improved community resources, the City purchased 22 acres with the intention to create opportunities for recreation, environmental exploration and entertainment for both community and county members alike. These 22 acres will be dedicated as the first city park in Crestwood called ‘The Maples’. Once used for small-scale farming and enjoyment, this property contains unique, historic structures that can be used for educational purposes. Jones Landscape Architecture was the landscape architect for the master plan that was prepared in early 2016. It includes proposed amenities such as an amphitheater (for community events), a sprayground, a playground, walking paths and picnic areas but most importantly, it aims to preserve the character of the farm property by restoring existing barn structures and unique buildings. This master plan, was unveiled to the community in October of 2016 and received a supportive and excited response. In 2017, the City began the first phase of construction, which included mostly infrastructure such as a restroom, exterior building renovations, parking as well as walking paths and trails. Phase 2 was completed in 2020 and features a new event Barn, a playground, a sprayground and a picnic pavilion. Phase 3, the amphitheater, is now in progress and will be completed in early summer of 2023.
